Port Vila, Vanuatu
Pacific Development Consulting Ltd. is thrilled to announce its recent collaboration with Save the Children to spearhead the enhancement of community early warning systems (EWS) and climate information services (CIS) infrastructure in Vanuatu. This strategic partnership aims to bolster community adaptation awareness and planning processes, reinforcing Vanuatu’s resilience against climate-related vulnerabilities.
The Vanuatu Community-based Climate Resilience Project (VCCRP), the largest community focused climate adaptation initiative in the Pacific, is the backdrop for this critical undertaking. Funded primarily by the Green Climate Fund, the project aspires to significantly reduce the climate-related vulnerabilities of communities across all six provinces of Vanuatu.
The initial phase of the initiative will execute a detailed baseline assessment in selected regions throughout the nation, examining current access to early warning systems (EWS) and climate information services (CIS) within high-risk communities. Additionally, the study will explore the potential for energy, information technology, and connectivity to improve community socioeconomics and livelihoods. The project plans to upgrade community infrastructures with modern solar PV systems and advanced and reliable communication technologies across more than 280 communities.
Pacific Development brings its extensive experience in international development and digital transformation to this project. Our approach is centered on community engagement, ensuring that solutions are not only technically sound but also socially inclusive and sustainable. By involving the village chiefs and community members in the planning and implementation processes, we aim to foster a sense of ownership and ensure the long-term sustainability of the infrastructure.
“Our home, Vanuatu, is ranked the world’s most at risk country. We are deeply honored to partner with Save the Children on this transformative project,” said Lauro Vives, Managing Partner of Pacific Development. “Our commitment to Vanuatu and the Pacific region drives us to deliver outcomes that are innovative, sustainable, and impactful. This project represents a significant step towards enhancing Vanuatu’s resilience to climate change and empowering its communities through technology.”
