Enhancing Early Warning Systems and Climate Information Services in Vanuatu’s Most At-Risk Communities
April 15, 2025
Port Vila, Vanuatu
Pacific Development Consulting Ltd. is pleased to announce the successful completion of its engagement under the Vanuatu Community-based Climate Resilience Project (VCCRP), implemented by Save the Children in partnership with the Ministry of Climate Change, the Department of Local Authorities and funded by the Green Climate Fund.
Our consultancy focused on delivering a baseline assessment of Early Warning Systems (EWS) and Climate Information Services (CIS) in selected high-risk communities across 29 area councils and over 280 communities. The work directly supported Output 1.3 of the VCCRP: to ensure that communities have increased access to timely, inclusive, and locally relevant early warnings and climate information to inform their climate adaptation planning.
Key highlights include:
Field assessments of EWS/CIS infrastructure
Identification of access barriers for vulnerable groups
Integration of traditional knowledge with scientific data
Exploration of sustainable models, such as solar powered internet and data-sharing
Practical recommendations to guide future investments and coordination
The final report provides a detailed evidence base to inform future infrastructure investments, capacity building, and cross-agency coordination aimed at strengthening climate resilience at the community level.
We thank Save the Children and the VCCRP Project Management Unit for their trust and collaboration. Pacific Development Consulting remains committed to advancing locally led, climate-resilient development across the Pacific.
